Life is frenetic. Maybe you can relate to the hectic schedule and long ""to-do"" lists as we fast forward through the days of three people from different walks of life. In this age, do we have time to cultivate our own spirituality?
Main Point: The pace of life is frenetic, often like a spin
cycle--and cultivating a relationship with the Lord takes decided effort away
from the rat race.
Synopsis:
- Vignettes
of three people are highlighted as they rush here and there and
continually rehash to-do lists in their minds.
- Video
opens and closes in a Laundromat with focus on a washing machine in the
spin cycle.
- Throughout
the video—continual lists of things to do are typed on to the screen as
the three people go about their day.
- The
first person—a college aged student waits for her clothes at the
Laundromat, gets money at an ATM machine, makes copies, calls a friend,
gets lunch, works on a report and drives—all the while pondering what she
has to do.
- The
next guy—a teenager sits on his roof talking with his girl friend before
engaging in a series of activities—homework, shopping at the record store,
band practice and hanging out with the guys watching TV.
- The
third person—a young professional commutes by car then public
transportation to work, leads a meeting, and works out at the gym. As he
runs on the treadmill, his image becomes like a cut out cardboard image.
- Very
fast paced video with accompanying music.
Application:
- We
need to slow down and smell the roses sometimes.
- The
human body is not equipped to go 24/7 but needs times of rest. The soul
also needs time to regroup and have peace and quiet.
- This
is applicable for all ages because stress impacts everyone.
- God
calls us to a time of rest in Him.
Suggested Uses:
- Sermon
starter “Is your life out of control?”
Biblical Reference:
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.
