Smith is caught between the copier, the pens he just lifted from the storage area, and his own guilt as his coworker, McMann, comes to wait in line to make copies. Join the fun as subtitles interpret the office ""man-talk"" that ensues. Who knew the topic of personal integrity could be so much fun to introduce?
Main Point: Your sin will find you out.
Synopsis:
- Smith
is a guy who probably has too much time on his hands because his thoughts
lead to actions that produce trouble.
- One
day while daydreaming at the copy machine, he has to tell himself to get a
grip on it because he’s thinking too much about the copier process.
- To
change his thought process, he finds himself over at the supply section
where he begins obsessing about clear pens with .05 razor tips.
- At
first he thinks he’ll take one –but he impulsively takes the entire box,
putting them in his shirt pocket.
- Immediately
after, another guy walks in—wanting to use the copier. All the while the
two men make small talk, Smith is thinking about being caught with the
stolen pens.
- Eventually,
the other guy decides he wants a pen—and soon discovers that Smith has
stolen them—at first he tells him to give him one—but before it’s over,
the guy takes the box of pens and leaves Smith with one of them.
- Very
cleverly produced—Smith’s real thoughts appear in text form—which differ
greatly from what comes out of his mouth.
Application:
- There
are many temptations to get us off the right path.
- The
consequence of our sins is never worth the trouble.
- No
matter what we try to intellectualize –there is no justification for sin.
- Smith’s
conscience—is a snapshot of all our consciences when we know to do right
but do wrong.
Suggested Uses:
- Sermon-starter
on integrity
- Bible-study
on walking out the 10 commandments.
