1. Why won't the on-line clips play?
This could be a number of problems.

  1. Your connection speed - typically 56k is too slow to view the clips, but this can depend on the level of site-traffic at the point in time you are attempting to view the clips. Often later in the evening may be more effective with slower connections.
  2. Your software - since there are so many different variables and versions of video players you may be using, we recommend you download the latest version of QuickTime for free at www.apple.com
  3. Most people who have this problem are on AOL. Upgrading to the latest version of AOL should solve this problem, or using Internet Explorer as your browser instead.

2. Could Highway Video send me a sample video?
Yes, we have a free VHS sample video we can send you, and it also includes a special, discount offer. Please either call, email or send us a letter requesting the free Sample Video with your name and mailing address, and we'll get it out to you ASAP!

5. Why do the MPEGs play so choppy on my machine?
If you are using one of our Cdrom products, Most likely you are playing them from your CD drive. Here are some steps to follow:

  1. Insert the CDROM into your computer.
  2. Open the CD on your computer so that you could see the contents of the CD.
  3. Drag the movie of your choice to your hard drive (C drive), eventually you will want to copy all the Mpegs to your hard drive.
  4. Re-insert the movie into PowerPoint or any other media player. It should be good from there.
If you are using the Mpeg1 file from one of our DVD's, you'll simply copy the raw file over from the DVDrom side of the disk, and play through your presentation program of choice. Choppy playback of these files could be related to slow processor speed, please contact us for more assistance if need be.

6. What resolution are the MPEGs?
We offer our Mpeg1 files in 2 sizes, 320x240 and 640x480

If you own Highway Video Volume products Vol 1-10, Vibe Vol 1-5 your Mpeg files are 320x240 pixels, or about half the size of a normal VHS. MPEGs are known to double their size very nicely, however, and stretching them to fit the screen size is very effective. Typically, depending on the level of quality of your projection equipment, increasing the video to 3/4-screen size results in a good, non-pixilated picture - while still being large enough to view. 100% screen size is usually not a problem with high quality projection equipment.

If you own Highway Video Volume products Vol 11 and up or Vibe Vol 6 and up your Mpeg1 files are 680x480, or about the same size as VHS. These files play full screen at VHS quality, yet still have small file size that they are useable in most computers with even slower processor speeds. Enjoy the quality benefits newer technology provides!

7. Are the Highway Video CDROMs the same as DVDs?
No, our CDROM's have MPEG-1 formatted video on them as opposed to MPEG-2, which are found on DVDs. CDROM's will not play in a DVD player, only through a computer CDROM drive. Currently we only offer "The Classics" in Cdrom, all other Highway Video Volume and Vibe Volumes are offered in DVD only.

8. How do you play or present CDrom MPEG files off a computer?
First off, see steps 1-4 in question #5, this will be necessary before the MPEG file can be accessed.:

To use videos in PowerPoint, open a new or existing presentation:

  • Create a blank slide
  • Go to Insert, then to Movie, and choose the Mpeg from the folder in which it is stored.
  • This will insert a 320x240 black box on the slide, grabbing a corner will allow you to stretch it to the size you'd like to display it. (Typically the best picture won't be the biggest, try playing the MPEG at say 3/4 screen size, then use a white or black background to create a border around the video, this works really well for most applications.)
  • Once you click on present, the video will play automatically, from here you can choose different advance or animation options for the slide just like any other slide you'd use.

Mpegs also play in MediaShout:

  • Right click in the left-hand column of the presentation screen, and choose Insert.
  • Now choose Movie, browse your computer until you find the file you'd like, then select the .mpg that you'd like to insert.
  • You are all set, the video will play automatically at full screen size when you "fire" it or advance through the presentation.
  • For more detailed questions about using Media Shout please contact them directly at www.mediashout.com

9. How do you display text over video?
Currently there are a couple of ways to do this, PowerPoint will not allow text over video [yet], only still images, no word on whether this will every happen or not.

There are, however, quite a few presentation programs that will allow this including MediaShout. To find out whether your program does or not its best to contact the manufacturer directly.

To do so in MediaShout version 2.5 you will add the video as a back ground to the text slide, right click on the text slide and go to properties, from there you will see a field for background where you can select the MPEG file you'd like to use. This works very smoothly as the video plays in its entirety even as you advance to new and different text slides. For any further detailed questions please contact www.mediashout.com directly.

Video behind text can also be done using video hardware - two separate video sources will be needed(ie: 2 laptops or 1 laptop and 1 VCR, etc), as well as a video mixer. This way, one video source will be text with a "clear" background, and the other source will be the video, and once both sources are combined though the mixer, the text will appear over the video background. For more information about equipment, we recommend that you contact your local A/V store. An easy way to get around this is to use two projectors on two screens, one with text and one with video. This is not the most affordable option, however, if you don't already own the equipment.

10. What is an MPEG video file?
An MPEG file is a computer version of a video. In order for any content to be used in a computer, it needs to have a format first. In other words, VHS won't play through a computer, a computer will not recognize anything unless its formatted. An example is that your computer will not recognize a hand written letter, but it will recognize a letter that's been formatted through Microsoft Word. The same applies for video. By mastering our videos in MPEG format, we allow you the ability to add video into your existing presentations so no queuing up or switching to other sources is required during your worship service or other live events.
